Aerospace Cluster
All around the world, aerospace is regarded as one of the »strategic technologies«, acting as an engine of growth and innovation. With R&D accounting for 19% of revenue, the "pressure to innovate" is all too obvious if Bavaria wishes to maintain and consolidate a top position on the international stage. In order to achieve this goal, innovations have to be pursued faster and more selectively, and transferred to other technologies. The aim of the cluster is to enhance competitiveness and innovative drive in the aerospace sector and to strengthen commitment to Bavaria as a location. A major aim in this regard is the creation and strengthening of networks involving companies, universities and research establishments alike. The cluster will bundle and focus Bavarian activities within the region, while also promoting and strengthening external activities. It will provide support in the optimisation of existing markets, as well as in the development of new markets for products, processes and services. Joint projects will be defined, implemented and evaluated, and marketing will be supported at both national and international level.
Tasks to be tackled in both the civil and military sectors include the exploitation of existing potential for new industrial products, processes and services throughout the value-added chain, and the creative further development of the sector via new solution approaches and the tapping of previously unknown target groups. The idea is to create a growing number of valuable synergies via networking within the industry, in particular at the interface to other technologies or sectors. With this in mind, we are establishing a number of individual platforms within the aerospace industry to work on identical topics, such as engines, cabins or defence. Another focus of our cluster operations is the homogeneous presentation of all Bavaria-based activities to the "outside world".
